When the greatest sporting achievements are forged, Rolex is there. The most iconic of Swiss luxury watchmakers marks the defining moments in the most resonant of athletic spectacles, supporting the leading competitions and events as both timekeeper and sponsor, in sports ranging from equestrianism to motorsport to golf.

But nowhere is its involvement quite so profound as in the uber-glamorous world of tennis. Rolex is the official timekeeper of all four grand slam tournaments, beginning its association with The Championships, Wimbledon, as long ago as 1978, and subsequently adding the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and the US Open.
The last of these recently concluded its 2026 edition at Flushing Meadows. There, the 23,800-capacity centrepiece is Arthur Ashe Stadium, the largest arena in world tennis, which saw a continuation of the tournament’s and the brand’s long history of remarkable achievements, on and off the court.

Many of the US Open’s most memorable moments have been created by players drawn from the ranks of Rolex Testimonees, the select group of elite performers with which the brand partners. They include contemporary stars such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Zheng Qinwen, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz – as well as numerous legends of the game from the past: the likes of Roger Federer, Li Na, Björn Borg and Chris Evert.

These are the players who have been involved in some of the US Open’s most unforgettable encounters. Evert, for example, overcame one of the tournament’s greatest-ever challenges when it moved to Flushing Meadows, and from clay to hard courts, in 1978 – the same year that Rolex first became the official timekeeper of a grand slam event. It meant that she was forced to defend her singles title on an unfamiliar surface, one to which her game was less well suited. It was a challenge she overcame in spectacular style, not dropping a single set during the entire tournament to take home the silverware for an incredible fourth consecutive year.

It’s an example of the indefatigable spirit shown over and over again by the sport’s leading stars, one that was dramatically in evidence at this year’s tournament – as ever, with Rolex’s unstinting support.
