A series of timepieces from Cyrus, available in Hong Kong at Masterpiece by King Fook, highlight this most original of Swiss luxury watchmakers’ spirit of boundary-pushing creativity and daring individuality.

Founded in 2010, the independent manufacture handcrafts its watches in small runs, infusing every one with a distinctive character. That Cyrus’ watches break away from the herd with aesthetically and mechanically distinctive designs comes as no surprise when you learn that they’re the work of the legendary Jean-François Mojon, the founder of movement manufacturer Chronode. The hidden genius working silently behind the scenes to create the beating hearts of watches for many major brands, Mojon is a specialist in highly creative movements that forge new realms of horological possibility.

It’s a level of expertise that’s comprehensively demonstrated in the Cyrus Dominion GMT. The star of the show here is undoubtedly the dazzling openworked dial, lit up by a dramatic upper bridge in the shape of a palm tree to create a starburst of thrusting lines, like a fairy-tale castle on a faraway planet.

Above that bridge appears the retrograde dual-time function, offering supreme legibility: the local time is indicated by large open-worked black hands that point to Arabic numerals on a transparent disc, while the second time zone is indicated by a retrograde hand with a triangular tip on a matte opaline grey arc featuring alternating Arabic numerals and dots. There’s also a small seconds display at 6 o’clock, equipped with an innovative, propeller-shaped hand.

The Dominion GMT comes in a round, 42mm case accessorised with sweeping curved lugs and a double crown. It’s available in gold and titanium versions, limited to 25 and 28 pieces respectively.

It’s joined among Cyrus’ stand-out offerings by the Etheral Twin Orbital Tourbillon, with its extraordinary 3D moving dial, on which a jumping hours display, the minute indication and two flying tourbillons change position over time. The product of over six years of work, the Etheral Twin Orbital Tourbillon features a new hand-wound manufacture calibre CYR518-E – a movement that boasts three patents – and comes in a limited edition of 18 pieces.

Lovers of horological maximalism, meanwhile, will flock to the Klepcys Dice Glacial Blue, a new pale-blue iteration of the world’s first double independent chronograph, first unveiled in 2021. Its 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock is balanced by a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock.
