Omega unveils the fourth generation of the Planet Ocean in Chongqing, China

First released as part of Seamaster, the Planet Ocean is one of the most famous diving watches – actors Wei Daxun, Song Weilong and Gulf Kanawut attended the recent launch
Chinese actors Wei Daxun and Song Weilong, and Thai actor Gulf Kanawut, were among the celebrities who graced the event held at Yifang Art Center, a striking building in the northern part of the city.

“I love Chongqing’s style, its modernity,” said Omega’s CEO Raynald Aeschlimann during a video call from Switzerland on the day of the event. “As [Omega is] a leading company, for me it’s very important to find a place with a certain modernity and a certain vibe. Let’s find a city where there’s a lot happening with the younger generation and that is very dynamic, vibrant and modern – also the architecture.”

Omega’s underwater prowess dates back to 1932, when it launched the Marine, known as the world’s first watch for civilian divers. Since then, timepieces such as the Seamaster 300, the Seamaster 1000 and the PloProf have redefined the brand’s legacy in water resistance.
Inspired by the Seamaster 300 watches of the late 1950s and early 60s, the Planet Ocean is one of the most celebrated diving watches in the world.

Reinventing an icon – a watch that Aeschlimann calls “the most lifestyle-oriented in the Seamaster family” – while also staying true to the brand’s heritage is key to a maison with such a long history and authority in watchmaking, according to Aeschlimann.
