Nicknamed “Cuong Dollar” for his apparent habit of using US currency, for years Nguyen Quoc Cuong has made headlines in Vietnam, thanks to his playboy turned businessman reputation, lavish lifestyle, fleet of luxury cars and romantic relationships with a host of Vietnamese showbiz celebrities.
He came to huge wealth through his mother’s company, Quoc Cuong Gia Lai, a corporation worth millions of dollars with major projects including luxurious resorts, hotels and other real estate.
Heir to one of Vietnam’s richest families and originally from the majestic and fertile Central Highlands of Vietnam, Cuong was born into the good life. His mother, Nguyen Thi Nhu Loan, founded Quoc Cuong Gia Lai in 1994, which initially specialised in wood processing and export, a lucrative industry at the time. She built good relationships with government officials and investors, and made her move into real estate, investing in high-end property development projects and becoming a member of Vietnam’s elite.
During his youth, Nguyen Quoc Cuong gained a reputation as a local playboy with his generosity and extravagant spending patterns. Rumour has it he became known for converting his expenditure to US dollars, earning him his nickname “Cuong Dollar”.
Ever since he was at high school, he had a fleet of cars at his disposal, indulging his passion for speed and fancy vehicles. His car collection is considered the most impressive and desirable in Vietnam and includes seriously expensive models such as a Lamborghini Gallardo SE, Ferrari F430 Spider, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a Maybach 62S.
