Harry Winston unveiled its latest high jewellery collection, the “Winston Autumn”, in Shanghai’s historic Zhujiajiao water town in September.
Autumn is the inspiration for the collection, from the changing colour of the leaves (from green to yellow) to the warm autumnal sunlight and a cool, pleasant breeze, so it is no surprise that it is yellow diamonds that reflect the theme.
Why did Harry Winston spend US$50 million on the ‘Leonardo da Vinci of diamonds’?

The preview took place at the Ahnluh Zhujiajiao, a 600-year-old courthouse that is now a luxury hotel. The venue, which dates back to the Ming dynasty, retains its “Wu Feng Lou” style architecture and Old World glamour, from the sophisticated Five Phoenixes hall to the grand Old Qing Dynasty Theatre.

The collection boasts more than 100 pieces, totalling more than 1,400 carats.

One of the highlights was an emerald-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond ring weighing 25.53ct. Another was a diamond necklace featuring a row of radiant-cut yellow diamonds, totalling 94.98ct.

The star of the collection was a ring showcasing a stunning 80.07ct radiant-cut yellow diamond. The largest stone in the collection is also the most expensive, priced at HK$100 million (US$12.77 million).
