The Bangkok skyline has a new glittering addition thanks to the Rosewood Bangkok hotel, with its distinctive exterior inspired by the Thai hand gesture greeting – the wai.

Located in the heart of the central business district on Ploenchit Road Road and directly connected to the Ploenchit Road Skytrain Station, this five-star luxury hotel is a walk away from some of the most popular shopping malls, including Central Embassy, Siam Paragon and CentralWorld, and tourist spots Lumphini Park and Erawan Shrine.

The Rosewood signature style is apparent here where it has created a modern luxury manor while integrating Thai culture in its design, with accents of rich woods and rattan-inspired patterns, pops of turquoise and emerald against a calming backdrop of browns, creams and gold tones. From the moment you walk in, you feel the tranquillity. There are 159 rooms which include 34 suites and studios with three signature houses with their own private pools and terraces.

We stayed in a spacious executive room that has a separate living and bedroom area, and we loved the view of the city through floor-to-ceiling windows – not only from there, but the bathroom too. The decor is soft creams with a lattice partial-room divider from the sofa seating area to the bedroom.

We loved the artwork on the walls and Thai accessories on the side tables such as books, flowers and ornaments. The room is stylish and comfortable, with modern amenities such as the LCD television, Bluetooth speaker and multimedia connection, the fully-stocked private bar and Nespresso coffee machine, and tea making facilities as well as the comforts of the bespoke bath amenities, Dyson hairdryer and the comfortable terry cloth dressing gown and slippers. We also loved the spacious walk-in wardrobe.

For more relaxation, the serenity of its spa, Sense, was perfect. On the sixth floor, this luxurious retreat offers treatments drawing from the long heritage of Thailand’s healing culture. I went for the 90-minute full body massage which was heaven.

The indoor-outdoor saltwater lap pool is next to G&O, a green and organic cafe serving farm-to-table healthy cuisine with locally-grown ingredients. There is also an interior waterfall adding to the soothing ambience.

Nan Bei is the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, the name means south and north respectively in Chinese, reflecting the menu which offers dishes from both the south and north of China.

We tucked into popular dishes as xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) topped with caviar, deep-fried tofu with salt and pepper, cuttlefish, steamed fish and Peking duck – all of which did not disappoint.

Lakorn European Brasserie is the all-day dining restaurant serving Thai and Western fare. We went for the Thai dishes, and it was outstanding from the khao soi chicken, to the pomelo and prawn salad, tom yum soup and satay chicken, the balance of flavours were perfect – not too spicy and full of flavours.

Not-to-be-missed, Lennon’s bar on the 30th floor, is a speakeasy with a vintage vinyl theme. We walked through the vinyl shop displaying classic LP albums, before finding the “hidden” door leading to the bar.

The views of the city were amazing from the bar, especially at night, and we tried the signature cocktails with names such as Frank Sinatra – Fly Me to the Moon. There was a DJ spinning classic LPs throughout the evening.
