Tarmey’s own clinic, in London’s beautiful district of Kensington, is worth its own Pinterest board. The three-floor salon is nothing like the sterile interior of your local dermatologist. Its furniture and design all echo the Victorian vibes, and the place is made to feel like a “home from home”.

Now she is bringing her special touch to Hong Kong with her eponymous skincare line, and the Cryotherapy Kit is a must-try for instant lift and glow, and has been used as an essential, red carpet prep for her celebrity clients.
Who are the world’s top 15 YouTube beauty influencers?
“I thought maybe next year I would try to do something in Hong Kong, and then I heard from Lane Crawford,” she says.
“I am so happy to be here, and very, very grateful. It is exciting to bring it to this side of the world, and come here and meet lots of people.”

Tarmey’s skilful hands may be one of the worst kept secrets in London’s starry circle. When I ask her how she got started, she says humbly: “Just word of mouth. One person came and recommended another one. The thing is with London is that it is very small. My clients are friends.

“If you look at certain sets of clients,” she says, then pauses for a moment, as if she doesn’t feel comfortable naming names. “Poppy [Delevingne], Sienna [Miller], and Kate [Moss] are all friends.”
So what does she do for them before they walk down the red carpet to face the flashing cameras?

Moss gets an Ice Lift Facial from Tarmey right beforehand: this includes a “lactic acid treatment, skin-tightening radio frequency, sculpting cryotherapy and facial massage”.

We plebeians can now get the same effect without Tarmey’s touch with her Cryotherapy Kit.
“I would use the Cryoball in the morning – it is very good for sculpting and de-puffing,” she says. “If you feel a little tired it could really wake you up. It’s really cold so it stimulates your cells. It is also really good before [adding] make-up.”
With her natural ability to suss out the needs of clients with any type of complexion that come to her for succour, I ask if she has always wanted to work as a facialist.

“I actually have,” she says. “I suffered from acne really badly when I was young and that was when I went into training and did anatomy and physiology.
“I’m very skin specific. I am very much about the holistic approach. My products are great. There are wonderful formulations out there, but nothing can help more than lifestyle, water and sleep and looking after your gut health. I tell all my clients, more than skincare, I tell them about that.”

“So I work with a wonderful nutritionist, Rosemary Ferguson. She’s Kate [Moss]’s best friend. She used to model in the 1990s. If my client has a real problem, I would send her to Rosemary to see if she could fix the diet side of things.
“So I try to give them a 360 [-degree] approach – what I can do is on the surface, and what they could focus on from the inside, and if I feel like they need to see Rose, I will send them to her.”
An excited Tarmey then reveals that she has great business plans, launching in November, which involves a collaboration with Ferguson.
I think people still get nervous about microneedling, but they shouldn’t be. Its needles are so small [and fine]; if you keep having to damage the skin, it has to heal, quicker.

“Naturally we are going to launch a business together,” she says.
“We have worked together for five years, and we work really well together, and my big belief is working from the inside.” When pressed for details she says: “It’s a secret, but it’s going to be something that helps the skin inside out.”

“When I first launched [my products], I tried them on myself or my team, never the A-list celebs.
“I wanted to bring to the market something different that I genuinely believe in and have seen physical results on myself.
“When I had acne I did a lot of microneedling [also known as collagen induction therapy, which is a dermaroller procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin].

How do J-beauty and K-beauty compare?
If you can’t make it to her clinic in London, Try the Teresa Tarmey Programme kit, based on her own signature microneedling facial. It includes a 24-carat gold-plated massage tool, along with a lactic acid toner, peptide treatment, silicone mask, hyaluronic acid gel, and a dermaroller to carry out the microneedling treatment.

How does it compare with laser treatments?
“No it isn’t laser, but it’s definitely a treatment,” she says. “It’s good to deliver the vitamin into the skin. Just a slight trauma will allow it to heal quick[ly].
“I’m a big believer in doing a little bit and often. Every week for 12 weeks, you can’t not see a difference. You’re going to see a difference.”
