As 2025 draws to a close, we look at four retrospective exhibitions opening around the world, which celebrate remarkable creatives who continue to have a lasting impact on the cultural psyche. Here are some landmark exhibitions to look out over the next few months, from an overview of Asia-inspired works by American artist Robert Rauschenberg to an exhibition that envisions a creative conversation between legendary designers Vivienne Westwood and Rei Kawakubo.
Robert Rauschenberg – Hong Kong

A precursor to the pop art movement, American artist Robert Rauschenberg was known for his works that combined painting with found objects. “Robert Rauschenberg and Asia”, an exhibition at M+ in Hong Kong, explores a series of works he made during his time in Asia. The exhibition showcases the artist’s collaborations with artisans in India, China and Japan, and artworks by Asian artists he met during his extensive travels in the region. Wes Anderson – London

One of the world’s most celebrated directors, Wes Anderson is known for his visually arresting films, from The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) to The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). The Design Museum in London has gathered more than 600 items from his movie sets for the exhibition “Wes Anderson: The Archives”. Exhibits include a model of The Grand Budapest Hotel as well as costumes, puppets and props. From November 21 to July 26, 2026
Wilfredo Lam – New York

Born in Cuba to a Chinese father, and a mother of Spanish and African descent, Wilfredo Lam had a peripatetic career that took him to Spain, France and Italy. The late artist is the subject of “Wilfredo Lam: When I Don’t Sleep, I Dream”, a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The most extensive exhibition dedicated to Lam in the US, it showcases more than 130 works, from paintings and prints, to drawings, illustrated books and ceramics. From November 10 to April 11, 2026
