Actor and tastemaker Chen Bolin has partnered with Sotheby’s to curate a selection of artworks for a sale of contemporary art in Hong Kong.
Chen has personally hand-picked unique pieces by trailblazing artists and established names such as Mark Grotjahn, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and Yoshitomo Nara, as well as innovative new creatives like Yukimasa Ida, Kei Imazu and Miwa Komatsu.

The works will be exhibited at Sotheby’s gallery from July 21 to 26 and will be offered as part of a live auction on July 27 at Sotheby’s Hong Kong space.

Who is Chen Bolin?

Chen is currently recognised as one of the most talented actors in Asia and has made significant contributions across film, TV and music. The Taiwanese native began his acting career with the film The Blue Door in 2002 and has since expanded his talents across Asia, where his acting skills and language proficiency have made him a sought-after performer, despite a few scandals in the past.

Awarded best actor at the 47th Golden Bell Awards for his role in the drama series In Time with You, the Taiwanese native is also a lover of music and the arts, and serves as the founder and creative director of the fashion brand Anowhereman.
His curatorial experience

His curatorial experience for Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated Asia aims to introduce more people to true creators and inspire them to discover the world’s gems.
Florence Ho, Head of Day and Online Sales, Contemporary Art Sotheby’s Asia, expressed delight in Chen’s partnership and said that his assemblage of works by established and emerging artists would inspire young collectors in the contemporary art market.

Ho said in a press statement, “In both Chen’s professional and personal life, he continually strives to push the boundaries, and it was this same ethos which drove his curated edit, looking for unique artworks that would trigger deliberation and open conversations.”
The current art collecting landscape in Hong Kong is more of a blend of both Western and Eastern artists, which positions Chen’s curated exhibition in an attractive place.
How to build an art collection in Hong Kong – according to the experts

Chen’s collaboration with Sotheby’s follows the success of its previous edition, which saw the auction house partner with fashion online retailer Net-a-Porter for the first time.
Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated features influential figures from various fields who select a group of works that resonate with them, enjoying great success since its launch in 2013, with editions held in New York, London, Hong Kong, Paris and Milan.
