Having opened at the start of the year in the hip Telawi neighbourhood, Namelaka’s exquisite, handmade desserts not only contain fresh fruit, but are shaped to look exactly like the fruit themselves. Apples, pears, lemons, passion fruit and tomatoes come together, with a delightful mix of mousse, ganache, marmalade and more, encased in a delicate chocolate shell.

Co-founder and patissier Low Chin Kuan underwent a five-day masterclass with famed pastry chef, Cedric Grolet, before perfecting his skills, to create this edible art.
While the name of the shop brings to mind Melaka, or Malacca, home of local dessert essential gula melaka (palm sugar), “namelaka” comes from a Japanese term meaning smooth and creamy.
Located on the first floor of a shophouse, Namelaka’s minimalist white interior leaves plenty of room for your photos to focus on the stars – the desserts.

KL-ites have been flocking to the hipster neighbourhood of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (locally known as TTDI) for some years, as home-grown cafes and restaurants have continued to pop up.
Amid all the Australian and Korea-inspired coffee joints that populate KL, Foo Foo stands out with its Parisian-meets-Asia loft decor, and of course, decadent desserts.
Plants, food and travel books and eclectic decor – like the cross stitched artworks of molecular structures found in desserts – populate the lengthy space, which is packed most nights.

Crowd favourites by Cordon-Bleu trained chef Foo and his team include the strawberry tart with balsamic vinegar ice cream, or the crispy profiteroles with salted caramel and coffee ice cream.
We recommend sitting by the window and watching the world go by, Parisian style, coffee (roasted by a neighbourhood cafe) and cake in hand.

OK, this bubble tea shop has to be made for Instagram. Having opened its doors in March, the interior of the cafe looks as if a comic book has come to life.  
Thanks to the talented staff, every wall and piece of furniture has been painstakingly painted by hand, to achieve the trippy black and white interior, which has been painted to look like a Japanese school, bathhouse and a French salon.
2D Bubble Tea has five different flavours, and is looking to expand in the future, and serve light snacks to go with the tea.

How to eat like a local in Kuala Lumpur
Take a break from the humidity in this airy and bright restaurant, that resembles a greenhouse with its full-length glass windows and overhanging plants.
There are three menus depending on what time of the day you visit – come for weekday or weekend brunch to enjoy some sweet treats.  
The Brûlée French toast sees charred pear, white coffee crumbs, dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream on large pieces of brioche, accompanied by sliced strawberries – cheat day anyone? Another favourite – the burnt cheesecake – is made from Danish cream cheese topped with a burnt sugar crust, resulting in a texture that is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside.
