The Max Mara Fashion Group labels presented their new collections at Milan Fashion Week – both are designed for women who dominate and move

This season, Max Mara and Sportmax drew from different inspirations for their fall/winter collections, but shared a common vision: dressing women who move with purpose.

The Max Mara woman is refined, powerful and purposeful. For the brand’s fall/winter 2026 collection, titled History and Modernity, creative director Ian Griffiths looked to history for inspiration. The collection is inspired by Matilda of Canossa, an 11th-century Italian noblewoman considered to be one of the most important governing figures of the Italian Middle Ages. She was known for her intelligence, strength and diplomacy.

Griffiths brought those traits to life through strong silhouettes: structured shoulders, gored cashmere skirts, suede tunics and sleek mid-thigh boots and dresses detailed with metal rivets.
