Sara Parker Bowles gave the queen two grandchildren, Lola and Freddy, and has praised the Princess of Wales’ mum Carole Middleton’s style, saying: ‘She wears the clothes, they don’t wear her’

For more than a decade, Sara Parker Bowles was recognised mostly as Queen Camilla’s daughter-in-law. But before that, she was a fashion journalist, covering all the major collections in Paris, Milan and New York, reports Tempus Magazine.

Here’s how she got there.

Her love of fashion started early

Sara Buys grew up in London’s Hampstead, a neighbourhood known for its mixture of academics, artists and media figures. She says her father, a financial adviser, “indulged me a little too much when I was younger so instead of learning from him I was spoilt and careless with money”.

With an English Literature degree from the University of Leeds, she started at Vogue as a features assistant before moving on to Harper’s Bazaar, where she became features director, covering arts, celebrity profiles and fashion.

Around that time she met Tom Parker Bowles, Camilla’s son, through mutual friends, according to Hello! magazine. Both working as journalists, Tom in food writing, they quickly hit it off. After five years of dating they married in 2005 before 450 guests, including Prince William, Prince Harry, Hugh Grant and Mick Jagger.

In 2007 they welcomed their daughter Lola and in 2011 their son Frederick.
