In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress opened up about filming the scene, where she tortures Pascal’s character to death, three days after her mum’s funeral.
“It was just a massive scene emotionally, and with blocking, too,” Dever said. “There were so many moving parts and so many things to navigate … To be as honest as possible, I will just say that my days leading up to this scene were horrible.”
Dever’s mum died in February 2024 after years of battling breast cancer. The show’s creative team reportedly did everything possible to make Dever feel comfortable during filming, per Variety. The actress has also had the support of her boyfriend, Ethan Dawes, who’s been accompanying her to events – including the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Born and raised in Encino, California, 35-year-old Ethan Dawes studied film at Emerson College in Boston. He’s a director best known for his work on the TV series Chicken Girls and romcom Go For Broke.
Aside from directing, Dawes is also an actor and has made minor appearances in shows such as Mayfair Witches and Sweet/Vicious.
