The world of golf was abuzz late last year after star player Bubba Watson was subject to relegation from the LIV Golf system, marking the possible end of an era.
However, the double Masters champion was saved, thanks to a technicality. Unable to finish in the top 48 in the season’s individual standings, Watson was in the Drop Zone. However, the RangeGoats captain submitted a “business case” to his team, allowing him to return for 2025. “I think my teammates want me back and I’d like to be back,” Watson said, as per the Daily Mirror.

Outside golf, Watson is a family man. He is married to Angie Watson, a devout Christian, whom he calls “the best thing that ever happened to me on or off a golf course”. They celebrated their 20th anniversary in September last year. What else do we know about her?
She was a WNBA player

Canadian Angie Watson, standing 1.93m tall, played for the Lady Dogs at the University of Georgia in the centre and forward positions. With her, the team reached the 1999 NCAA Final Four and won the 2000 SEC Championship. Her professional basketball career started in Italy and then took her to the WNBA, where she played for the Charlotte Sting for a season. But she couldn’t stay with the team owing to several injuries. Per People, Watson is now the women’s basketball head coach at Pensacola’s East Hill Christian School, Florida. Previously, she took care of the business and marketing side of Bubba’s career.
How did she meet Bubba Watson?

Bubba Watson played golf for the University of Georgia and had a crush on Angie Ball for more than a year. During an injury lay-off in 2001, reports The Sun, she watched Watson play a pick-up basketball game, after which Watson struck up a conversation with her. They met again on the UGA golf course and he asked her to play a round sometime – which they did on their first date. The couple married in 2004.
They adopted their two children

“First date me and Angie ever had, she told me she was going to have to adopt,” Bubba Watson recalled in a 2012 interview with The Augusta Chronicle. The couple welcomed son Caleb the same year and daughter Dakota in 2014. “It’s the toughest thing we went through as a couple, but it’s been the greatest thing we’ve ever been through,” Angie told Fox News in 2019.
