Robert Redford, one of the most iconic actors of his generation, has made his first on-screen acting appearance in six years on AMC’s Dark Winds.
Redford, who announced his retirement in 2018, appeared alongside Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin in a cameo during the season 3 premiere of the Western noir thriller on March 9. Both men are executive producers on the show.

Acting aside, Redford is also an award-winning director. His directorial debut, Ordinary People, earned four Academy Awards including best picture and best director. In 1981 he also founded the Sundance Institute, which holds the annual Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States.
In fact, it’s at the Sundance Mountain Resort where the festival is held that Redford met his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, in 1996. The couple, who have a 20 year age gap, tied the knot in 2009 and have been together ever since.
