Chalamet told reporters after his record breaking win as best actor at the SAG awards that his mum ‘might have won me this’, and he wasn’t joking – here’s why

Timothée Chalamet brought his mum as his date to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards this year – and the mother-son duo got to share a very special moment as he enjoyed yet another milestone in his career. On Sunday, Chalamet bagged the best actor prize for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the film, A Complete Unknown.

At 29 years old, he is officially the youngest person to win best actor at the SAG Awards, notes Variety.

He made sure to thank his mother as he walked on stage to accept the award. “I was not expecting this at all,” he said. “I’ll start by thanking my mother who I’m here with tonight. She has been working at Actors Equity for 40 years, the stage union.”

The Dune actor later revealed what his mum said to him after he landed the prize. “She said, ‘Don’t forget to fold your laundry,’ and I was like, ‘Really? This moment? Really? This moment I just won this award, and I’m 29 years old and you’re chastising me still,’” Chalamet said in an interview with Extra. “She might have won me this,” he told Extra. “I grew up in an actors’ building in New York, so I know she really pushed everyone she knew to hit that vote button.”

While Chalamet had his mum by his side throughout the event, his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, was noticeably absent. It was later reported by People magazine that Jenner was not on the RSVP list and was not expected to go. It was also revealed that her long-time hairstylist and friend, Jesus Guerrero, had died suddenly at the age of 34.
