NBA star Doncic might have to up his whole fashion game after moving from Dallas to Los Angeles – but he has a head start thanks to his enviable collection of watches

Luka Doncic has been dominating headlines lately … and not just for his performances on the court. The basketball world was stunned when the long-time Dallas Mavericks star – who was widely regarded as the heart of the team – was unexpectedly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers this month in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a first-round draft pick. The move, considered one of the most shocking trades in US sports history, sent fans and analysts – and even NBA players such as Dennis Schröder – into a frenzy.

While point guard Doncic initially seemed to have been caught off guard, he’s been taking the transition in his stride. Landing in Los Angeles means stepping into a city where fashion and status go hand in hand – especially in a locker room that includes some of the league’s most style-conscious players, from Jarred Vanderbilt to the father-son duo of LeBron and Bronny James.

No doubt Doncic will get his threads up to scratch, but in the meantime the 25-year-old Slovenian can rely on his covetable watch collection as he walks the halls of the Crypto.com Arena on game day.

Doncic’s most recent addition appears to be an openworked, 18K yellow gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which he wore to his first press conference for the Lakers in the wake of the shock trade. This supercharged version of the AP classic features a blackened inner bezel with applied yellow gold hour markers, with the openworked construction unveiling blackened bridges dotted with burgundy-toned gems. Subtle yet undeniably extravagant, this is a timepiece fit for a debut with a legacy team and retails for US$101,000.

Doncic appears to have a knack of picking watches that slyly nod to his team’s colours: a stylish way to show his loyalty off the court. Arriving at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, he rocked another special edition Audemars Piguet Royal Oak – this one an 18K frosted white gold chronograph with the brand’s “Grand Tapisserie” dial in a smoked blue whimsically named “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50”, mirroring the Dallas Mavericks’ royal blue and silver motif. Another six-figure stunner, it’s valued at more than US$102,000.
