SNL50: Who is Marcello Hernández’s youthful Cuban mum Isabel Cancela? She’s appeared with the Saturday Night Live star in a T-Mobile advert, and she inspired her son’s viral skit with Pedro Pascal

Having regularly joked about his Cuban mum during his stand-up, Hernández decided to show his gratitude by bringing her along to the SNL 50 Anniversary Special last Sunday
The rising star regularly uses his Latino roots to comic effect – including in his stand up, in which he often talks about his relationship to his Cuban mother.
But despite being the subject of many of Hernández’s jokes and skits, his mum Isabel Cancela gamely accompanied her son to the SNL50 event to celebrate the show’s half a century on air – and they clearly share a close bond.

The mother and son duo opted for a classy look during their red carpet appearance, with Hernández dressing up in a dapper tuxedo and Cancela stunning in a dazzling head-to-toe black ensemble.
“I’m grateful, I’m very blessed and the best part is that my mum gets to come and see it all because she saw me from the very beginning,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet.
“It’s fantastic, I’m having a great time. It’s the best weekend,” Cancela chimed in.
Here’s what we know about Marcello Hernández’s supportive – and very youthful – mother, Isabel Cancela.
Isabel Cancela is from Cuba

Isabel Cancela hails from Cuba. She fled the island country with her family when she was 12, moved to Spain and then the Dominican Republic before relocating to the US alone, according to Variety.
