Q&a / Pacharee marks 20 years of 3.1 Phillip Lim: jewellery designer Sophie Schuemers-Rogers, loved by Sarah Jessica Parker and Blackpink’s Lisa, has launched her first-ever collaboration

Sophie Schuemers-Rogers, the Thai-born, Swiss-based jewellery designer behind the brand Pacharee, recently joined forces with celebrated American designer Phillip Lim to launch her first-ever collaborative collection. With ateliers in both Bangkok and Zurich, Pacharee is best known for its eccentric touch, using only natural pearls and precious stones in all shapes and sizes as a testament to nature’s “imperfectly perfect” beauty.

It’s also a perfect match for Lim, who recently left his fashion label 3.1 Phillip Lim after 20 years of making magic with the contemporary chic clothing brand.

Style sat down with both designers to learn more about the collection – first unveiled at Lim’s label’s final show at New York Fashion Week last season – ahead of its Hong Kong debut at the Rosewood Asaya boutique in December.

How did this collection come about, and what sort of milestone is it in your careers?

Sophie Schuemers-Rogers: I grew up in New York City, so I basically walked up and down Barney’s buying Phillip Lim. Me and my girlfriends were Phillip Lim girls. So when this initiative happened, I was just over the moon. Sarah Jessica Parker wore our pieces, and Lisa from Blackpink – we’ve had high-profile love around the world, but this project is so personal.

Phillip Lim: [Pacharee] reminded me of obviously elevated, personal surfer jewellery. My 20th anniversary collection was [about] joy and going back to why I do what I do – tracing back my roots to California and New York. So I wanted personal mementos, charms – and it worked out perfectly because I see her P [charm] for Pacharee everywhere. I’m like, “That’s P for Phillip!”

What was it like for Phillip to transition from fashion to jewellery?
