Meet Robert F. Kennedy III: the grandson of RFK and son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr turned his back on politics to build a career in Hollywood and married Amaryllis Fox, a former CIA spy, in 2018
Bobby dabbled in politics after university, even hosting a fundraiser for Barack Obama in 2008, but ultimately chose to pursue a career in film; he has raised a family with his ex-CIA spy wife
For more than a century, the Kennedy name has wielded significant clout in American politics. The family, who emigrated from Ireland in the 1840s to escape the potato famine, has produced a US president, a US attorney general, numerous members of the House and Senate and others who have committed themselves to public service. But one member of this prominent family has carved out his own path away from Washington.
He was briefly involved in politics
Bobby, 40, attended Brown University and after graduating briefly ventured into politics. Most notably, he organised a fundraiser for senator Barack Obama in 2008. He also helped launch Ameritocracy.com, a platform aimed at combating disinformation in politics, where he served as outreach director.
In an interview at the time with Teen Vogue, he discussed the importance of critically engaging with political discourse. “For so many people our age, understanding this election is one of the most important things right now,” he shared. “But we live in a culture of sound bites. But you have to dissect them, you have to look at their sources.”
He is a Renaissance man in Hollywood
Despite appearing to be on a trajectory following his family’s political legacy, Bobby ultimately chose to explore the world of film and media.
“People that, I feel at least, get into politics too early, before they’ve had a chance to express themselves and kind of be free and do what they want to do, end up being the most corrupt politicians,” he said in 2011, according to HuffPost. “I don’t really care for American politics as they’re currently playing out. Campaign finance is basically legalised bribery.”
His Hollywood career began with his directorial debut ELEW: Live from Infinity (2012), a one-act comedy exploring themes of immortality. He then wrote and starred in Eurotrapped, a 2013 film about a graduate who, cut off by his wealthy parents, embarks on a wild tour of Italy and becomes entangled in an organised-crime ring.
Bobby’s most recent project is Fear and Loathing in Aspen (2021), a film about journalist Hunter S. Thompson, who famously ran for Pitkin County Sheriff in Colorado in 1970. The idea struck Bobby while he was living out of a bus in Aspen and spotted a “Thompson for Sheriff” poster at his favourite bar.
