Who is Spice Girl Mel B’s fearless daughter, Phoenix Brown? The 25-year-old owned her nepo baby privilege in a social experiment, would love to be a rock star, and works with a domestic abuse charity
Mel B’s daughter with Spice Girls backing dancer Jimmy Gulzar says she’s ‘no Beyoncé’ but would love a singing career – meanwhile, she’s a self-taught DJ and an ambassador for UK-based Women’s Aid
In October 2024, her documentary Born in the Limelight – Nepo Babies: Untold took an unvarnished look at just how much further her famous mum’s name would get her compared to the average person. Posing as a serious artist, she painted a series of amateurish artworks and exhibited them in London. At the same time, she contacted well-known galleries to ask for internships. Not only did she sell her hastily put-together art for thousands and hear back from several companies about internships, but a genuinely talented artist used as a test case received no such offers.
“Nepo babies think they get to where they want to be solely based on talent, but in this case, for me, I had no talent in this,” Brown concluded. “It has to do with opportunity because there’s a lot of inequality in this world.”
In a new article published in Radio Times magazine, Brown delves in to the increasing hate for nepo babies seen in recent years. “Nepotism is everywhere, no matter what area you work in,” she writes. “It’s just that the entertainment industry is very visible.
“It’s clear there is a problem and I don’t have all the answers, but we will get nowhere by targeting nepo babies as individuals. We must explore the bigger societal issues.”
So who is Phoenix Chi Gulzar Brown, who’s been about as fearless as her famous mum when it comes to discussing difficult topics? Here’s what to know.
