A year ago, New England Patriots head coach and former linebacker Jerod Mayo was announced as outgoing coach Bill Belichick’s replacement. Now, the team has cut ties with Mayo after just one season. According to a report by The Athletic, there were several factors at play in his rapid dismissal. It is rumoured that one reason for Mayo’s firing was his decision to play cards on the plane home after the team’s devastating 30-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in December – while the rest of the coaching staff spent the trip analysing the game’s plays.

“Look, there are a lot of ways to do the job. It’s not that Jerod’s was definitely wrong. But I can’t say I’ve seen that before,” a source told the outlet. However, team owner Robert Kraft emphasised in his own statement to the media that, “This whole situation is on me,” and Mayo “just needed more time before taking the job”.

Now that Mayo’s short-lived turn as head coach has come to an end, his wife, Chantel Mayo, is no longer the first lady of Foxborough – though she still has her own career going for her. So what do we know about Chantel Mayo (née Rostant)?

Mayo works in cosmetology and hair care, per her Instagram biography. She also describes herself as a “creative cook”, dabbles in floral and event design and is a self-proclaimed philanthropist. According to the New York Post, Mayo has extensive experience in the beauty industry and has worked with celebrity clients.

She’s also the founder of children’s fashion boutique The Brand Finale, which was launched in 2016, and a floral designer with her other company, CM Creative Experience. The mother of four is also an influencer, boasting 75,800 followers on Instagram.
