Who are Dr Phil’s sons, Jay and Jordan McGraw? The talk show host spoke at a Trump rally, but said it wasn’t an endorsement of the president-elect – and he would have gladly spoken at a Harris rally

Having launched TV network Merit Street, Dr Phil says he was ignored by the Harris campaign; one of his sons also works in TV, while the other is a musician who toured with the Jonas Brothers

The 2024 US elections were characterised by numerous celebrity endorsements. From Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Eminem throwing their weight behind Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, to Elon Musk, Mel Gibson and Jake Paul speaking out for Donald Trump, stars weren’t shy about making their political preferences known in this election cycle.
However, some celebrities appear to have been all over the map when it comes to their support for the US’s two main parties. Rapper Azealia Banks, who initially endorsed Republican candidate – and now president-elect – Trump, said the day before the election that she’d changed her mind and would be voting for Harris. But, once the elections results were announced, Banks appeared to have flip-flopped again. She took to X with a photo of her ballot showing a vote for Trump with the caption, “Lmao, I lied, I voted for Trump yesterday.”

Similarly, TV personality Phil McGraw – best known as the controversial Dr Phil – spoke at a Donald Trump rally days before the election, then retracted his supposed backing a week later, claiming it wasn’t an endorsement of Trump but rather “an act of rebellion” against Harris’ campaign.
Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, McGraw said, “I offered to give the identical speech at a Harris rally.” He explained that after numerous attempts to make contact, Harris’ campaign only engaged with him after he spoke at a Trump rally. Despite offering to “cross out Trump’s name, write in Harris’ name”, McGraw noted that the campaign ghosted him “once they found out I was serious”. Later in the interview, McGraw refused to confirm who he’d be voting for.
McGraw in April launched his own company, Merit Street Media, which covered the presidential election. However, he is best known for hosting his talk show, Dr Phil, where he offers mental health, life and parenting advice, based on his training as a clinical psychologist. He is also a father of two.
