Despite growing up without Caitlyn around, Brandon Jenner has said his relationship with her improved as they got older – but he didn’t join Kim Kardashian at the 75-year-old’s recent birthday bash

Caitlyn Jenner just turned 75 and hosted a bash in Malibu to celebrate with her close family members. The Trump-supporting reality TV star shared a group photo from the big night on her Instagram, which included her son Brody Jenner and his fiancée Tia Blanco as well as Kim Kardashian and other relatives. Kim also posed with Caitlyn Jenner in a separate selfie, which she shared on her Instagram with the caption, “Happy 75th Birthday. I love you.”

The Olympic gold medallist hasn’t always had the best relationship with some of her family members – from blasting her ex-wife Kris Jenner and blaming her for their separation, to claiming Kim Kardashian “calculated” her fame from an early age. In turn, Kim once called her a “liar” and “not a good person” for what Jenner wrote about her father, Robert Kardashian, in her memoir The Secrets of My Life.

Meanwhile, Brody Jenner – Caitlyn’s son with songwriter and actress Linda Thompson – hasn’t said very flattering things about her either. Just a year ago, he indirectly denounced her parenting style in a video announcing the birth of his own daughter, Honey, who he shares with internet personality Tia Blanco. “Growing up I didn’t have the greatest relationship with then-Bruce,” Brody said, adding that his father “wasn’t really around for me growing up”, and that he will endeavour to “do the exact opposite”.

Fans quickly noticed that besides the party guests seen in Caitlyn’s birthday photo, none of the other Kardashian or Jenner children wished the former athlete happy birthday publicly – including her daughters Kendall and Kylie and her other son with Linda Thompson, Brandon, per People.

Much like Brody, 43-year-old Brandon Jenner has also said that Caitlyn wasn’t around much when he was younger, especially after she split from their mother and married Kris Jenner. Brandon revealed in the book To Me, He Was Just Dad, that from ages eight to 25, he only met Jenner a handful of times. “After Dad met and married Kris, family became a business for him, and I stayed away for most of my teenage years. I didn’t want to be a part of their dynamic,” he wrote candidly.

However, their relationship reportedly changed following Caitlyn’s transition: “In seeing him come out to me and explain his true self, I was more proud right there to carry the last name Jenner and to be part of the family than at any time before,” Brandon told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in an interview. He also told People in 2016 that he was “able to connect with” Caitlyn and that their relationship is “awesome and better than it’s ever been”. It is unclear what their relationship is like now.
