Who is Martha Stewart’s ex-husband Andrew, father of her daughter Alexis? Her new Netflix documentary sheds light on the US’ first self-made female billionaire – and her marriage and affair
Martha Stewart, who married Andrew when she was 19, was the ‘first to divorce’ in her family; Andrew’s current wife called the former couple’s marriage ‘painful and abusive’
In a newly released trailer, the Emmy-winning television show host shares a word of caution for young women: “If you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of s***. Get out of that marriage.” When the producer cuts in to ask her about her own affair early in her marriage to Andrew Stewart, the 83-year-old says bluntly, “Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.”
The couple separated in 1987 after 26 years of marriage and divorced in 1990.
As much as Stewart believes the “cookie cutter house and the cookie cutter life” as a “miserable, has-been housewife” were not for her, she admits that the split was hard. Opening up about the separation in a People magazine interview in 2020, Stewart said, “Getting divorced was a terrible thing for me, because we were the first to divorce in my family … and that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful.”
