Meet Randi Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mother: she encouraged her son to pursue college football over the MLB but says the last 7 years have been ‘the hardest of my adult life’
She got pregnant with Patrick Mahomes at just 20 and has always been her son’s biggest supporter – but what does the woman who sports a QB Producer jersey really think about being an athlete mum?
Here’s everything to know about supportive athlete mother Randi Mahomes.
She’s a superfan … and a super-mum
And while Mahomes’ performances on the field are no doubt what earned him that lucrative contract, growing up with his mum and two siblings, brother Jackson and half-sister Mia, has given him an unconditional support system to rely on.
Randi became pregnant with Mahomes when she was just 20 and that experience, she says, forced her to grow up quickly. She married Mahomes’ father, Patrick Sr, but the pair ended up divorcing in 2006.
The 49-year-old matriarch has been by her son’s side, supporting his athletic aspirations, from a young age. Randi grew up in a family of educators: her father was a school principal and she was always pursuing academic excellence.
The Texan revealed that her approach was always academics first, extracurriculars second when it came to her children, including Patrick. She was the first to jump in when he contemplated quitting American football during high school. “I told him he would be bored and to stick it out, and he did. Then in his junior year, it really blossomed for him.”
