The NBA is only getting bigger, drawing an all-time attendance record of 22.5 million fans to games during the 2023-24 season, according to a recent press statement. And that’s not the only growth at the National Basketball Association. With big success comes even bigger salaries, so it’s no surprise that the players and coaches of today’s game are taking home far larger salaries than decades before.

In terms of compensation, Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors is the highest-paid NBA coach after signing a two-year, US$35 million extension deal, per Fox. This means he’s earning an impressive US$17.5 million annually, boosting him to the top of the income list.

7. Billy Donovan, 59

Team: Chicago Bulls

Before his successful career with the NBA, Billy Donovan became famous as head basketball coach at the University of Florida between 1996 and 2015. During his time with the Florida Gators, Donovan became one of the highest paid college basketball coaches in the world, per ESPN. In 2015, he made the leap to the NBA, where he now coaches the Chicago Bulls.

6. Tyronn Lue, 47

Coming in at number six is former player-turned-Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, who previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers. Fortunately for him, he’s set to become even wealthier. Earlier this year, Lue signed a five-year contract worth an estimated US$70 million to continue his success as Clippers head coach, per The New York Times.
