Country music star Luke Bryan is sharing his views on why Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album was snubbed at the recent CMA Awards, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s a tricky question,” the “Play it Again” singer began during an appearance on the Andy Cohen Live radio show. “Obviously, Beyoncé made a country album and Beyoncé has a lot of fans out there that have her back,” he continued, adding that “just because she made one [album]” doesn’t guarantee her any awards. “A lot of great music’s overlooked.”

“Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it,” he added. “But where things get a little tricky, if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.”

The American Idol host continued: “Beyoncé can do it exactly what she wants to. She’s probably the biggest star in music. But come to an award show and high-five us. And have fun and get in the family too,” he said, qualifying his statement by adding, “I’m not saying she didn’t do that.”

It’s not the first time 48-year-old Bryan has sparked controversy in the public sphere either. Luckily, one woman has stuck by his side throughout: Caroline Boyer.
