Roan dominated headlines after revealing she turned down an invite to perform at the White House’s Pride Celebration earlier this year, due to opposing various stances of Joe Biden’s administration. She told The Rolling Stone that she initially considered accepting the invitation, but reading Palestinian poetry to protest the US’ support of Israel amid the ongoing Gaza war instead of performing. However, she ultimately decided against this after further discussions with her publicist.
