Meet Sexyy Red, the rapper behind risqué beauty brand Northside Princess: her Sexyy Gloss line went viral for its NSFW shade names, and Drake once called her his ‘rightful wife’
- The 26-year-old ‘Pound Town’ rapper made her start in music with a diss track about a cheating boyfriend – which he loved – and is a mum of 2, although she keeps her baby daddies’ identities secret
- She’s already been co-signed by some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, SZA and Travis Scott, but fans aren’t happy about her cancelled tour dates
It’s official: when it comes to the most risqué beauty product names, Nars has been dethroned by rapper Sexyy Red.
The 26-year-old just released her own cosmetics brand, Northside Princess, with its debut line being a collection of lip glosses called … Sexyy Gloss. And the shades these glosses come in have some, erm, interesting names. As revealed on her Instagram, they are: CoochieJuice, BootyholeBrown, Nut, P****holePink, YellowDischarge, Gonorrhea, BlueBallz and SexOnMyPeriod (fruit scented). Hold on to your pearls.
One user commented, “I hope you gotta be 18 and older to buy these” while another said, “This is not very modest, not very demure of you,” referring to the viral trend started by TikTokker Jools Lebron. However, the collection has definitely found its fans too, with one commenting, “I would 100 per cent wear something like this, I love making people uncomfortable with my make-up.”
When Sexyy Red spoke to Complex about her products over a year ago, she said people called her a “marketing genius”. True to that title, the “Pound Town” singer may have left the internet divided – but it’s certainly got everyone talking.
So, who is Sexyy Red, and what else do we know about her?
How Sexyy Red got her start in rap
The St Louis, Missouri native was inspired to take on rap after she caught her then-boyfriend cheating on her, per Complex, and made a diss track about it. However, he ended up loving it, even acknowledging her rap skills. Sexyy Red hasn’t looked back since and is now a prominent figure in hip-hop, touted as “one of the biggest breakout artists of summer 2023” by Billboard.
