Who is Candace Cameron Bure, who called the Olympics opening ceremony ‘disgusting’? The actress starred in Full House alongside Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and is married to an Olympian

- Full House actress Candace Cameron Bure is a devout Christian and slammed the Paris Olympics opening ceremony’s controversial ‘Last Supper’ tableau for being blasphemous
- She’s married to former Olympian and ice hockey player Valeri Bure, with whom she has 3 children, and JoJo Siwa once called her the ‘rudest celebrity’ she’d ever met

Bure shared her disappointment and anger in her Instagram stories, writing that “The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy,” but said watching the ceremony “completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith” was “disgusting”.
The following day, Bure reiterated her point by posting a video on her Instagram feed addressing claims by the segment’s artistic director that the performance was instead about the festival of Dionysus. “I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and is acceptable for children to watch,” she wrote.
Paris 2024 organiser Anne Descamps apologised for any offence caused, explaining the ceremony aimed to celebrate community tolerance.

Bure’s Christian faith often draws public scrutiny, and she’s faced backlash in the past for her comments on traditional marriage and the LGBTQ community. Last year she was forced to address allegations that she’d tried to remove a queer actor from Fuller House, which she denied in a statement to People magazine. “I never asked Miss Benny’s character to be removed from Fuller House and did not ask the writers, producers, or studio executives to not have queer characters on the show,” she said.
But controversial comments aside, who is Candace Cameron Bure, and how did she rise to fame? Here’s everything you need to know about the American actress.
