While Christine Chiu might feel that bittersweet twinge of disappointment with Netflix cancelling Bling Empire after three seasons, she also loves having more time for herself.

“I spent four to six hours per day in hair, make-up and styling while we were filming the show, which are now ‘bonus’ hours I get to really spend time with my husband and family, whether it’s trying out a new recipe at home or riding bicycles on the beach,” she enthused.
“No complaints here!” Chiu added with a smile.

And while she is sad about the show being over, the popular reality star is still a firm believer of both gratitude and timing. “I am immensely grateful for not only the opportunities provided through Bling Empire, but also for the global platform the show had lent each one of us (cast members) during a very pivotal time in the world.” Chiu added, “We were able to tell such diverse, heartfelt, culturally important stories throughout the three seasons.”

“And we were able to be a part of a greater moment in entertainment arts, whereby Asian-American heritage was celebrated and given the spotlight in ways it was never provided before,” Chiu mused.

Keeping busy after Bling Empire

Never one to sit still for long, Chiu remains very busy with several other projects, including running operations at her business, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery, and preparing to go to the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, taking place in New York on May 1 for the very first time.
“Although I have been a part of the Costume Institute for the Met for many years, this will be the first year I will be attending! As the charity ball is considered the most important celebration of fashion history to arguably the world, I am very intentional on selecting the most authentic piece of art to wear that will express who I am, what I value, and what 2023 honoree Karl Lagerfeld means to me.”

Among her extensive vintage couture collection, Chiu owns several Lagerfeld designs.
“I have had the great pleasure and honour of collecting Karl’s beautiful art, ranging from his time at Jean Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and at his own namesake brand, Karl Lagerfeld. Each piece brings indescribable joy, wonderful memories, and hours of fun storytelling. These reasons, coupled with the importance of sustainability in fashion, guided me back into my very own haute couture collection for a special gown created by Karl at Chanel Haute Couture.”

The Met Gala will be the encore appearance of one of Chiu’s favourite couture gowns, which originally debuted in the palace for “an important dinner” with King Charles. “I will also be upcycling the materials from my other demi-couture gowns and collaborating with a local artisan to create a beautiful cape and train,” she said.

Staying fit

Aside from fashion preparations, Chiu has been stepping up her beauty and fitness routines to attend the gala.
“In the months leading up to this event, I have been committed to regular Pilates, personal training, dance training sessions; changed my diet to reflect more greens, proteins, cutting out artificial sugars and carbs; and have invested in leading skincare treatments and products,” Chiu said.
Perhaps influenced by her husband’s work in the beauty industry, Chiu herself is also an avid advocate of using technology to enhance one’s appearance and improving one’s skin health.

“Specifically, I have been undergoing radio-frequency with microneedling treatments, utilising the SylfirmX technology by Benev and topically applying exosomes. This procedure, using ultrafine gold-plated needles with surprisingly no downtime, helps with skin texture, hyperpigmentation, tone, colour, firmness, laxity and lifting,” Chiu said.
“Exosomes are filled with growth factors, proteins, amino acids, peptides, minerals and vitamins – all of the secret ingredients needed for red carpet-ready skin and overall skin health. I am also trying to get more sleep, albeit not having much success yet!”

More time for the family

While she’s away, her plastic surgeon husband Dr. Chiu will be on nanny duty and then, after the event, she will get right back to being super mum to her toddler Gabriel, who is about to turn five years old.

“I’m hands on with Gabriel, with morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups, extracurricular sports, hobbies, activities, play dates, helping out at preschool and party planning!” Chiu explained.
She is also “deeply passionate” about the philanthropic efforts and commitments she has made to non-profit organisations like the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation, for which she is co-chairing the annual gala this year with Paris Jackson.
