Brooke Shields has enjoyed decades of success on the silver screen, from landing Pretty Baby at age 11 to Sahara in the 80s, and today remains an icon of her generation. But as with many former child stars, Shields has faced plenty of controversies along the way.
A new Hulu documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields follows the dangers and triumphs of growing up in the spotlight and her meteoric rise to fame, and how it’s shaped her life today.
Born in New York on May 31, 1965 to former model Teri Shields and Revlon executive Frank Shields, Brooke’s foray into showbiz started even earlier, posing in an ad when she was only 11 months old. As a teenager, she also appeared in The Blue Lagoon (1980) and Endless Love (1981).

1. Her first foray into showbiz at 11 months old
She stepped in front of the camera for the first time at 11 months old in an advertisement for Ivory Soap.
After more modelling and commercials, Shields began appearing in films. She had a small role in Woody Allen’s Annie Hall (1977) but her scene did not make the final cut.
