How Gemma Chan rocks Asian fashion designers with purpose: the Marvel star’s a Louis Vuitton rep, but she’s also worn Jason Wu at a Clooneys event, Miss Sohee for Eternals and Jimmy Choo in Hong Kong

- Ever since rising to Crazy Rich Asians fame, Gemma Chan has been deliberate about championing Asian designers, all throughout her Captain Marvel and Don’t Worry Darling success
- Chan believes she has a ‘responsibility’ to fight for representation with her platform and is regularly spotted in brands like Anabela Chan, Shushu/Tong, Ph5, Yuhan Wang and Edeline Lee

The British-Chinese actress has since starred in a string of big-name movies, from Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon to Marvel’s Eternals and Captain Marvel, plus last’s utopian thriller Don’t Worry Darling. What’s more, she’s just been confirmed to star in a new apocalyptic Apple TV series alongside Meryl Streep and Sienna Miller, and she’s slated for the lead role in the upcoming Anna May Wong biopic too.
Although her natural poise and beauty makes her a stand-out muse for luxury brands from Louis Vuitton to Tom Ford, Chan is a notable advocate for diversity and representation, and often wears outfits by up-and-coming Asian designers to spotlight their work for a wider audience.

Back in 2018, the 40-year-old made a point of wearing Asian designers on every stop of her press tour to promote Crazy Rich Asians. “I think we are all becoming more aware that the greater platform you have the more responsibility you have, but it just isn’t about speaking about designers, it is about speaking up when we see disparity or a problem,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Which begs the question, what are her best Asian designer looks to date?
