Crazy Rich Asians was unleashed on the world in 2018 and, as Time correctly predicted on the eve of its release, the film was “destined to become a hit”, marking a watershed moment for representation in Hollywood. Pegged as the first mainstream Hollywood productions with both an all-Asian cast and an Asian-American lead since 1993, the feelgood smash raked in US$237 million worldwide at the box office, making it the highest-grossing romcom of the decade, according to Vox.

Stars shone – some new, some familiar faces – with many going on to spread their wings in even bigger budget productions for Marvel and Netflix. Now, much to fans’ delight after a long wait, it’s just been announced that Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr are getting their own CRA spin-off, and it’s speculated that many of the OG cast will also reprise their roles for the upcoming sequel. As the anticipation for Crazy Rich Asians’ second film continues, let’s take a look at how their fortunes have fared when it comes to finances, according to Celebrity Net Worth and the collective number crunchers of the internet.

It doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that Michelle Yeoh, an icon of Asian film who turns 60 later this year, comes in with the highest net worth thanks to her wealth of experience.

The Malaysian actress plays a stern mother in the film but is best known for her work with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which earned the title “female Jackie Chan”. She was also the first Bond girl of Chinese descent, appearing alongside Pierce Brosnan’s 007 in Tomorrow Never Dies, and starred in Memoirs of a Geisha.

According to VimBuzz, Yeoh can thank her incredible acting resume, which includes a roster of Hong Kong classics, for a big chunk of her earnings. However, according to Car Knowledge, the veteran actress’ net worth has also accumulated from her impressive property portfolio and motor collection which includes a Maserati Levante and Ferrari.

She’ll soon be back on the big screen with James Cameron’s Avatar 3 and features in A24’s new release Everything Everywhere All At Once.

2. Ken Jeong (aka Goh Wye Mun) – US$14 million
