Meet The Governesses’ star-studded cast: Lily-Rose Depp, Jung Ho-yeon and Renate Reinsve will headline A24’s latest film, based on the Anne Serre novel

It’s all eyes on A24. The independent entertainment company behind films like Ex Machina, Midsommar and Uncut Gems, as well as the viral HBO hit Euphoria, has confirmed its next big project: The Governesses. The film will be Joe Talbot’s second directorial work following his 2019 feature, The Last Black Man in San Francisco. He previously wrote, produced and directed the short film American Paradise. Based on a novel by Anne Serre, the story focuses on three young, subversive governesses. The trio are entrusted with educating a group of boys, but instead push the boundaries of the household they live in. They sidestep their duties, give in to their desires and fall into a dreamy world of sensuality and temptation. It’s also the film’s star-studded cast. The luxury lives of Kourtney Kardashian’s children A24 has gathered quite the trio to play the three governesses: model-actress Lily-Rose Depp (Wolf, The Idol), breakout star Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Game) and actress Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World). With such an impressive cast booked for the production, excitement and expectations are running high. Here’s a primer on the The Governesses’ three headliners. 1. Lily-Rose Depp Some may recognise Lily-Rose Depp as Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’ daughter, but she has long stepped out of her parents’ shadow. At the age of 16, Depp appeared in her first Chanel campaign, fronting their pearl-encrusted eyewear collection. Depp’s work goes beyond the world of fashion. She has been acting since 2014, kicking off her filmography with a minor role in the film, Tusk. Renate Reinsve It’s not every day that a person chooses to quit acting to pursue carpentry, but Renate Reinsve was about to do just that – until she received a call that changed the trajectory of her career forever. A competitive swimmer in her youth, it quickly became clear to Reinsve that she wanted something else in life. A few years and a US$1.30 (£1) flight to Scotland later, Reinsve discovered her love for acting. A couple more years later, she uprooted herself once again, moving to Oslo to become an actress. Despite being eliminated in the third episode of the show’s fourth season, she returned just a few episodes later, ultimately finishing as the season’s runner-up. She moved to New York to continue her modelling career – but not before dyeing her hair a fiery red shade ahead of the big move. Jung’s career thrived in New York, where she walked for Opening Ceremony, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara and other renowned designer houses. She became the face of Calvin Klein and, most recently, the Chanel fragrance No 1 De Chanel.
