From power struggles to seeking revenge, the rich apparently have plenty of problems of their own, as shown in the Hong Kong television show Modern Dynasty. The drama shows the potential dark side of luxury living, and how far some would go just to achieve their goals.
While the show focuses on three generations of the affluent Ma family, there’s no denying that the actresses’ real-life wealth has caught the attention of viewers too. But just who is the richest?
1. Manna Chan

Manna Chan, 70, is rich both on-screen and off-screen, as she has a net worth of US$127 million, according to 8 Days.

Apart from being a semi-retired actress, Chan also bought and sold properties during Sars, which helped her accumulate more wealth. Chan currently lives in a luxurious 26,900 sq ft residential estate in Hung Hom, with a 270-degree view of the Victoria Harbour.

2. Lynn Hung

According to 8 Days, Lynn Hung only acted in Modern Dynasty because she had nothing to do at home ‒ which isn’t a surprise, considering her husband is Hong Kong billionaire Ken Kwok.

The article also reported that at her career’s peak, Hung used to earn as much as US$6.6 million a year. While there are no reports on Hung’s current estimated net worth, judging by her previous earnings, it’s probably not too far from her Modern Dynasty character’s.
3. Rain Lee

Rain Lee’s wealth is not that different from her character in Modern Dynasty, as HK01 reported that she has properties in various countries with an estimated worth of US$157 million.

Yet her riches did not come overnight, as the 38-year-old actress had initially struggled to pay off her father’s debts. Lee currently lives in Shanghai and has a net worth of US$314 million.

4. Candice Yu

Candice Yu may not have had a lot of screen time in Modern Dynasty, but her acting left a deep impression. Best known as Chow Yun-fat’s ex-wife, Yu did not lead a smooth life even after marrying for the second time.

She reportedly underwent another divorce and raised her daughters single-handedly without receiving any alimony. Re-entering showbiz when she was 43 years old to make ends meet, she was later able to send her children to attend universities in England. Now, 63-year-old Yu leads a simple and humble life.

5. Tavia Yeung

A report by Sin Chew revealed that Tavia Yeung earned up to US$640,000 for her appearance in Modern Dynasty. While Yeung and her husband currently live in Hong Kong, they have plans of moving to China for better work opportunities, according to TVB.

Closing in on the details of their house in Hong Kong, U Lifestyle reported that the couple was rumoured to be living in the luxurious area of Tai Po, where many other celebrities live too.
