Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duchess of Värmland, is the wife of unlikely style icon Prince Carl Philip. Still, it’s her poise and beauty that often make her the centre of attention, whether at exclusive royal family gatherings or formal banquets. For official occasions, the princess never fails to exude sophistication and elegance by accessorising her regal outfits with the just the right amount of sparkle.
Here are just a few of the eye-catching jewels she’s donned over the years …
1. The Palmette Tiara

The Swedish royal family pulled out all the stops for the pomp and pageantry at the wedding of Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip in June 2015. This was the occasion in which the Palmette Tiara made its debut. This tiara was a wedding gift from Prince Carl Philip’s parents, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, according to The Court Jeweller.

In its original design, the Art Deco-style tiara features diamond palmette motifs in graduated sizes, topped by a set of graduated pear-shaped emeralds. It is said that the tiara was crafted from an emerald necklace gifted to Queen Silvia by a Thai Prince. The jewels were sent back to Thailand to create the tiara in an effort to keep it as a surprise for Sofia.

The Palmette is highly versatile. The emeralds mounted on top can be removed and replaced with other gemstones, including turquoise pieces, to go with different outfits. In this picture taken at the Nobel Prize award ceremony in 2017, Princess Sofia achieves a different look with the Palmette Tiara, topped with teardrop shaped pearls.
2. The Napoleonic Cut-Steel Bandeau

The Napoleonic Cut-Steel Bandeau is a smaller version of the larger cut-steel tiara that Crown Princess Victoria wears occasionally. Both tiaras are unique among the Swedish royal crown jewels as they are not set with any gemstones. This artistic piece, similar to its larger and more ornate counterpart, originates from France and features a lattice pattern of steel arches topped by steel beads, according to 9Honey.

For the Nobel Prize Banquet 2015, Princess Sofia paired this bandeau, which derives its sparkle from intricate metalwork of highly polished steel, with earrings of green gemstones and diamonds.
3. The Six-Button Tiara

The Six Button Tiara is of high historical significance. The diamond buttons, or rosettes, have a remarkable provenance: they were parts of the crown worn by King Karl XIV Johan, who was born Jean Bernadotte, at his coronation in 1818, according to 9Honey. He was the first king of the Bernadotte dynasty, and his legacy has remained central to the royal family to this day.
While the diamond rosettes have a history of more than two centuries, the Six Button Tiara is a relatively new creation: it was crafted around the time that Princess Lilian married Prince Bertil in 1976, according to The Court Jeweller.
4. The Royal Family Order
