No matter how hectic her schedule is, K-pop idol IU has always been an icon for great fan interactions. She is known for showing her gratitude and appreciation to her fans – Uaenas – through gifts or engaging in conversation through social media live broadcasts or even commenting on fans’ posts. She is also praised for her charming personality, kindness and overall talent.

Here are some of IU’s best “fan service” moments that have earned her the nickname “Queen of Fan Service”.

She keeps her promises


IU is an idol who not only keeps her promises to her fans, but also delivers big time. According to Koreaboo, in 2019 she attend a fan’s graduation ceremony at Gimje Girls’ High School. A year earlier during a fan meeting, the singer promised that she would attend the fan’s high school festival, but ended up paying a surprise visit at her graduation instead.

IU dressed up in a formal outfit, giving off the ultimate unnie (older sister) vibes. She gifted the students flowers, cosmetics and chocolates – with fans estimating she spent up to US$15,000, according to KpopHit – and even performed a few of her songs.

She once attended a charity event in 2017, doing community service with fans who painted murals for her birthday. According to Soompi, she showed up despite her former agency, Fave Entertainment, officially denying her participation.

IU doesn’t only give generous gifts to her celebrity friends – she expresses her love for her fans through gifts too. On social media, her fans posted about how she once asked famous pals like Girl’s Day, APink and actor Kim Soo-hyun to sign autographs addressed with “Dear Uaena”, and gave them out as special gifts during her fan meetings.


According to Koreaboo, she also once gifted a fan – who was a budding singer – a US$3,000 Audio-Technica microphone, a T-Money transport card with an undisclosed amount of money on it and a handwritten letter. Koreaboo also reported that IU has been giving out gifts to Uaenas who wait for her at the airport since 2012 – ranging from small candies to bags of goodies bought from airport shops.
She surprises her fans at events that they organise


For IU’s birthday in 2019, Uaenas held an event to celebrate, complete with an exhibition of photos of her. In a vlog posted to her YouTube channel, IU explained how – after discovering that drama shooting was cancelled for the day as a birthday gift – she took a taxi to surprise her fans at the event. However, since she arrived quite late, only a few fans got to meet and chat with her.

Of course, IU interacts with her fans during her concerts too. A particularly memorable occasion was during the Taiwan leg of her Love, Poem concert tour in 2019. According to Koreaboo, she spotted a group of elderly fans in the audience, and immediately stepped down from the stage to chat and take a photo with them.
