If you couldn’t tell by the pussycat bow blouses, floral print suits or pearl necklaces, Harry Styles is a forward-thinking, gender-bending fashion icon. The style babe loves his Gucci moments (and we’ll share the highlights, don’t worry), but he’s also a pioneer of lesser-known labels that encompass a gender-fluid fashion philosophy.
Here are five of Styles’ go-to designers for the ultimate androgynous look that the glam-rock pop star is so famous for.

Saint Laurent suits

Before his solo career, as a member of British pop boy band One Direction, Styles was often seen sporting Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent suits on the red carpet.
You’re probably thinking, “A man wearing a tailored suit with a heeled boot. Groundbreaking.” But he had to start somewhere!
The former Saint Laurent creative director (current multi-hyphenate director of Celine) is known for his gender fluid, unisex designs. Saint Laurent, which historically reinvented women’s wear, most notably with Le Smoking tuxedo suit, is also considered a pioneer label of androgynous fashion.
Gucci … everything!

And then came Gucci or, more specifically, Alessandro Michele. Gucci’s creative director took Styles under his sartorial wing, dressing him for Met Gala glory in 2019, promotional campaigns, red carpet events and even a paparazzi ambush or two.

Our favourite outfit by the flamboyantly fabulous duo? As much as we’re fans of the eyelet collars peaking over brightly coloured jumpers, or embroidered floral jackets, the Met Gala moment definitely stands out. 
For the event, which Styles also co-chaired, the 27-year-old singer wore a custom Gucci organza shirt with lace, high-waisted wool mohair trousers, patent leather boots, and a single bee earring featuring a hanging cream drop pearl.

JW Anderson’s rainbow cardigan

The Watermelon Sugar star once wore a colour block patchwork cardigan during a rehearsal for an appearance on The Today Show. The original piece by JW Anderson reportedly retailed for more than £1,250 (US$1,740). So, Stylers, as his fans are called, began a TikTok trend where they attempted to DIY the crocheted cardigan.


The eponymous founder of the British fashion label was so impressed by the spirit of creativity that the brand released their original crochet pattern for fans to use – free of charge. 
Éliou necklaces … and a yellow bucket hat?

For one iconic scene in his Golden music video, Styles wears a pair of loose floral pants by Liverpudlian designer Steven Stokey-Daley, accessorised with a pearl necklace and yellow rain hat that would make Paddington Bear green with envy.
The pearl necklace is by the playfully modern jewellery designer Éliou, and can be bought in their online store for US$180. However, no two Éliou pieces are alike, as each item is handcrafted and uses naturally shaped freshwater pearls.
In January, actress and director Olivia Wilde – the pop star’s 10-year-older girlfriend – was seen wearing the same necklace Styles wore in the video.

As much as Styles loves his Gucci, the British singer is also known to wear pieces from lesser-known designers. On tour, there was one gender-fluid designer label that knew just how to dress the Golden star: Harris Reed. 
The young eponymous designer describes his brand’s DNA as “romanticism gone non-binary”. In an interview with Vogue, Reed describes how he was introduced to Styles through the singer’s long-time stylist, Harry Lambert – at a time when Reed only had about 1,000 followers on Instagram. 
The result? The sexiest ruffles on one of the sexiest chart-toppers in the world.
