Eleven-member boy group The Boyz debuted on December 6, 2017 under Cre.ker Entertainment with their song Boy and have been pushing ever since to prove that they’re not just here to stay, but to dominate the industry.


In the past three years, through sheer hard work, The Boyz have amassed enough achievements to make their fans proud. They took home the Rookie Award at 2018’s Korea Brand Awards and Soribada Best K-Music Awards, and got their first music show win with the song Bloom Bloom in 2019.

And then there was their three-year Soribada winning streak, where they took home the Rising Hot Star Award in 2019 and the New Hallyu Male Performance Award in 2020. The Boyz also have a two-year winning streak at The Fact Music Awards, winning Next Leader in 2019 and Year’s Dance Performer in 2020.
In June, the group competed in Mnet’s Road to Kingdom TV show and finished in first place, securing their spot in next year’s Kingdom. Their latest song The Stealer immediately debuted at No 12 on the Melon Chart – a huge jump from their previous effort with Reveal, which only came in at No 522 earlier in the year.

As the group celebrates the three year anniversary of its debut, here are a few things every true fan should be aware of.

To the surprise of many, The Boyz have not yet announced an official group colour or official lightstick to allow fans to show their allegiance. With their anniversary coming up, fans are speculating that this could be the year the group will release details of one or both of these crucial pieces of information for K-pop lovers. Even group vocalist Kevin has said he would love to work on a lightstick design once he’s given the opportunity. Watch this space …

The members are surprisingly hands-on with their merchandise designs in a bid to make them more personal and sentimental for fans. For their debut showcase, Kevin designed a golden wappen badge as part of The Boyz official merchandise. He also designed the wappen badge for their first debut anniversary.

For their first fan convention, The Castle, even more members took part in the designing of their products, with group mates Kevin and New designing an eco bag and slogan; Kevin creating another wappen badge (clearly his speciality!), and each member designing a pin.
The members even designed the D. I. Y version of their fourth mini album “Dreamlike”, which contained several arty photos taken by the members themselves.

Almost every K-pop group does an MBTI (Myers-Briggs) test and shares their personality type with fans. Not wanting to disappoint, The Boyz uploaded a video to that effect on their YouTube channel, in which they grouped themselves into MBTI types and openly discussed their personality traits on camera.
Of the 11 members, just four of them are “introverts” sharing the same MBTI type (INFP-T): Kevin, Jacob, Younghoon, and New, while the remaining seven are extroverts.

In an episode of Come On! The Boyz Summer Vacation, the members declared that they could all swim – except for New. The others jokingly wondered how he became a member of The Boyz in the first place given that he lacked this particular life skill the others all shared.

In fact, member Younghoon is such a good swimmer that he even competed in national competitions pre-debut and took first place in several of them. Juyeon also revealed in an interview with STYLE that he has a scuba diving license and would love to show fans his skills one day. Haknyeon even has a horse riding license.

Three members of The Boyz are confirmed to have tattoos: Kevin, Eric and New. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted Kevin’s tattoos on multiple occasions, and New can be seen to have a small cross tattoo on his left little finger, while Eric has been spotted with tattoos by his elbows. The left elbow says “mind” while his right reads “m!ne”. No wonder they have a Japanese mini album called “Tattoo.”
