What a view | Taron Egerton’s gritty role in Black Bird on Apple TV+ is worlds away from his turn as Elton John in Rocketman and a suave spy in Kingsman
- Apple TV+ six-part true-crime thriller sees Egerton’s jailed Jimmy Keene offered a tricky deal by the FBI that could lead to freedom before his sentence is up
- Meanwhile, Netflix K-drama series Alchemy of Souls is a costume drama, romance, supernatural sorcery and martial arts saga rolled into one that’s a kinda magic

From Rocketman to in-the-pocket-of-the-FBI man, Taron Egerton is proving adept at handling all manner of roles.
Based on the memoirs of the real Keene and a masterful addition to the catalogue of true-crime thrillers, the six-part series sees Egerton’s Keene jailed for 10 years, then offered an unlikely deal by the FBI that could lead to freedom.
Keene must go undercover in a maximum-security prison to elicit information from a Midwest serial killer of teenage girls and young women as to where he buried the bodies of his victims.

With the murderer’s conviction likely to be overturned on appeal, and his probable release approaching, Keene must work quickly without blowing his cover to either the devious, suspicious killer (a creepily unnerving Paul Walter Hauser) or the malicious prison guards, who are unaware of his dangerous game.
