Since gingham made an appearance in spring lookbooks, it was only a matter of time before tartan marched onto the summer runways. Giorgio Armani has some of the best takes on the pattern in its latest collection of tailored jackets, trousers and cady silk blouses. Standouts include the trouser suit (jacket, HK$49,000; trousers, HK$28,000) and matching shirt (HK$18,000; all above left). If that's a little "much", then try pairing the same shirt with the long red coat with tartan lining (HK$55,000), soft grey trousers (HK$17,000) and heels (HK$6,050; all above right). Giorgio Armani is in Chater House, Central, tel: 2532 7700.

Giddy up Tod's has taken the equestrian route this season. Its summer range includes bags in the shape of saddles with straps that resemble reins. We'd pick the Mini Secchiello with leather drawstrings in teal (above left; HK$12,100) or the tan version with rhinestones (above right; HK$15,600). Tod's is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 2810 8692.

Join the tribe Africa is the inspiration behind Parisian designer Isabel Marant’s spring-summer collection. The clothes and accessories have a distinctly tribal feel, with a palette of auburn and rust and elements such as raffia, fringing and pleating. We love the studded sandal collection, especially the Jaeryn in black (above left; HK$6,999) and the Lenny snake-effect slip-on (above right; HK$5,999). Isabel Marant is available at net-a-porter.com.
