The enlargement of an already sizeable apartment might not be the most obvious design objective. But when it came to renovating a 3,000 sq ft flat on Peak Road for a family of four, that was the primary task of Joseph Chang, creative director of design firm JC Vision.
The layout comprised lots of small, claustrophobic rooms, which didn't make sense, says Chang. So, he got rid of all the non-structural walls, including one that had sectioned off an area to one side of the living room, to open up the dining room, lounge and kitchen areas.
With the changes - there are now three bedrooms, three en-suite bathrooms and a powder room - the property has become "very light-filled, even at 6pm", says Chang. Natural light travels through the living room, which has views of Central and the harbour, to the dining area and open kitchen, which face lush hills.
To keep the emphasis on the views, Chang ensured the colour scheme was not a distraction.
