Who started it? Cornell University graduate Adam Lippes got his start in fashion at Polo Ralph Lauren in 1995 before moving on to Oscar de la Renta two years later. There, the American designer quickly became one of the youngest creative directors in luxury fashion and, in 2004, he launched his first label, Adam – a line of chic, cotton basics with clean lines. He sold Adam in 2010 but bought it back two years later. Last year, he launched a more sophisticated line under this namesake label to critical acclaim.
Why we love it: Lippes designs classic American luxury pieces with a sportswear touch. Made from fine fabrics, his streamlined shapes feature impeccable tailoring and a sophisticated, understated elegance perfect for urbanites.
What we’d pick: the white chainembellished silk Georgette dress (above left; HK$9,200) is both classic and modern. This closely tailored item has a keyhole back and modern slit cuffs, and the bold chain necklace can be removed for a more casual look. His cotton tunic with pockets (top right; HK$5,370) is loose and flattering and can be paired with the lightweight pleated leather and silk organza skirt (above right; HK$16,480).
