Side effects Bally’s Bloom bag is a timeless duffel that is both elegant and practical. With echoes of Céline’s trapeze bag, the Bloom’s panels expand to create more space or can be compressed with the adjustable straps. We love both versions: plain calf leather (above left; HK$14,990) and deep tan suede with green snakeskin panels and bright yellow detailing (above right; HK$24,990). Bally is in Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 3312.

Pop stars French high-street label Kookai has tried to make a name for itself as a purveyor of art through fashion, and this approach can be seen in the brand’s pre-autumn collection. Inspired by pop artist Keith Haring, the retro knitwear reflects the artist’s love of popular symbols, with brightly coloured stars, abstract zigzags and asymmetrical blocks of colour. Anyone who loves a funky throwback will love the magenta and lilac pullover (above right; HK$1,780) as well as the striking jumpsuit (above left; HK$1,680). Kookai is available at Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2722 9659.

Raise the temperature Exaggeration is the name of the game in Marni’s autumn-winter collection. While stiff, layered cuts make for a sophisticated, if austere, first impression, bright fuchsia coats and full-frock sheepskin skirts help lift the wintery spirits. Texture plays an integral role, with brightly dyed patches of fur, oversized industrial zips and feather embellishment invigorating the collection’s more conservative pieces. We love the neoprene and wool V-neck pullover (HK$6,500) and skirt (HK$5,900; both right), for a strong and simple statement, as well as the eccentric army green skirt, overlaid with iridescent feathers (HK$23,900; far right). Marni is available at Joyce, 16 Queen’s Road Central, tel: 2810 1120.
