The Trump group's first foray into Downtown Manhattan, Trump Soho has a young, chic persona but none of the glittery glamour of its Central Park sibling. And despite its 391 guest rooms, the property is more akin to a discreet boutique hotel. A lobby lined with muted Spanish marble, reflecting pools and shuttered windows keeps the paparazzi at bay and leads guests into an intimate library; Koi Soho, a signature Japanese restaurant; and a panel of lifts that transport guests to and from the hotel's 47 floors.
Actually, no; Trump Soho is the brainchild of three of the billionaire's children, Donald Jnr, Ivanka and Eric, among others. Consequently, expect a much younger, though still highly luxurious feel - house music at reception and in the restaurant; pool parties on the seventh floor; and a nightclub vibe in the chic Lobby Lounge (below).
Spacious and lavish without being ostentatious. Dressed in earthy tones and fabrics, including classic beige leather and white marble, with Fendi ponyhair foot benches and hammered copper sinks, each space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows offering cityscape views that are unlikely to be cluttered for decades, thanks to prudent investment in neighbouring air rights by the building's owners. From many rooms, you can look down on the Hudson River from your bathtub, and the larger suites and duplexes remain popular with the hotel's many celebrity guests.
Koi Soho, which also opens for lunch, serves an imaginative menu of contemporary Japanese cuisine infused with Californian accents, while the seasonal Bar d'Eau serves spa cuisine and health shakes poolside. The hotel also prides itself on an extensive room-service menu, which not only offers a range of international breakfasts - from Scandinavian and Greek to Chinese and Japanese - but also has vegan, gluten-free and organic options, a collection of vitamin and nutrient-packed shakes and a whole menu of quick bites guaranteed to be delivered within 15 minutes.
