AMO, short for Advanced Multisport Optics, is a local brand of high-performance sports sunglasses for athletes. Lawyer and triathlete Tim Hallworth launched the label last year with his Hong Kong-born wife, Fenny Tsang Chui-fong. The couple spent three years testing their products in the hills surrounding Sai Kung, where they live with their two children. Hallworth suffered an eye injury as a child that left him sensitive to light. He found there were no sports sunglasses that could meet his needs, so decided to create his own.
AMO sunglasses are comfortable, lightweight and look great. They are made using cutting-edge technology and are tested by triathletes, runners and cyclists, then improved upon based on the athletes' feedback. All AMO sunglasses have shatterproof polycarbonate lenses, which offer 100 per cent protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays, and the highest optical quality without distortion: a winner for sport geeks.
the yellow Cirrus (above left; HK$1,302), from the Typhoon series, is AMO's bestseller. The thin-armed frames are incredibly lightweight and comfortable, and can be relied upon in extreme environments. The Ironcatcher (above right; HK$1,690), from the Transformer series, comes with a choice of three lenses - yellow, mirrored and medium dark - that can be changed to suit various light conditions.
