TURN-ONS
Mains are served in generous portions, with the XXL 1kg giant sausage (HK$228) being more than enough for four people. The wagyu beef burger is well-made, with the truffle fries (HK$138) offering a tasty upgrade on a classic. Although we didn’t order the pork knuckle combo (HK$288), it seemed popular - and ideal for a group of friends having a drink.

TURN-OFFS
With neon lights, dark wooden chairs, veneered chipboard tables and TVs showing tennis, The Beer House can’t seem to decide whether it’s a traditional pub, cocktail joint or sports bar. Regardless, the interior needs a facelift, as we were turned off by the peeling menus and stained upholstery. The Beer House shares a menu with neighbour Beerliner, which also serves nearby Tonic, all owned by Cafe Deco Group. This gives diners a wider selection than the limited snack menu, but creates confusion as to which bar you are patronising. The nachos (HK$88) and jalapeno poppers (HK$98) are pleasing only to those who enjoy generous servings of processed cheese. Accompanying the nachos was a fizzy salsa, while the poppers were served with a tartare sauce that is best left to seafood dishes.

DRINKS
An international selection of bottled craft beer, plus cocktails and a limited wine selection. The beer menu has a maltiness and hoppiness index, guiding guests through their global menu. We opted for the Hong Kong Beer Company’s Dragon’s Back pale ale and its Big Wave Bay IPA (HK$68).
