Who is Rhye? Mysterious band promise Hong Kong an intimate show
Enigmatic electro duo Rhye bring their soulful sound to Hong Kong

Los Angeles-basedduo Rhye may have a single-syllable name, but that's all they have in common with the likes of Cher and Prince. After first coming together in 2010, Denmark's Robin Hannibal (of Quadron) and Canadian Michael Milosh (known professionally as just Milosh) posted a few tracks online but mostly remained in the shadows.
The duo didn't flaunt any identity — instead, they let their music speak for itself. This led to an assumption that they were going out of their way to be mysterious and elusive. "People have kind of assumed that I released tracks anonymously, but I didn't," says Milosh. "My name was everywhere … I just didn't put my picture up. I know how the media machine works. It stops being about the music and it becomes very much about the person. I just don't want it to be about me."
But it's Rhye's sound that makes them stand out. Their goosebump-inducing, emotionally charged 2013 album, Woman, is a carefully crafted, exquisitely produced record that earned Rhye a reputation for a seductive, soulful sound. There's a closeness and a tenderness to the soft vocals, evocative lyrics, and stirring strings. Woman — with its funk, soul, and electronic elements — is an album that is both haunting and sensual.
Milosh describes the collaboration between himself and Hannibal as natural and intuitive. "I was working on a remix for a song of his from Quadron. I don't really love doing remixes so … I started really changing it, and I sent it to him and he was like 'Why don't we turn it into a song?'" The track became Major Minor Love.

"Robin produces similarly to the way I produce, so there was an easy language between us. So we put the album together. It was very simple. Once I click with someone, then it's low stress and it's creatively fruitful."
